Sleep fit for Sharks

The North of England’s only Premiership rugby team, Sale Sharks are soon to experience improved sleep courtesy of a corporate partnership with a scientific pillow and mattress company, Levitex.

About Levitex

Levitex, based at the Manchester Science Park, have developed an innovation in polyurethane foam technology for use in pillows, mattresses and mattress toppers, which are already achieving outstanding results with elite atheletes for recovery, rehabilitation and relaxation. Sale Sharks pride themselves on having the lowest injury statistics in the Premiership and therefore recognise the importance of sleep quality. The partnership brings together physio’s, sport and university scientists, experts in postural management and consultant doctors in one single purpose – performance and well-being through sleep. Levitex has already achieved life-improving results when tested on patients with acute debilitating conditions and has undergone an independent clinical trial by the Directorate of Occupational Therapy at The University of Salford (June 2018).

Sale Sharks x Levitex

The Sale Sharks playing squad will each receive a bespoke Levitex® pillow made especially for their physique. The pillows are designed to vastly improve neck and spine alignment and will help them gain the maximum rest before each game and recovery afterwards. The Levitex® pillows will be supplied in a limited-edition travel carry bag, which will allow the players to take them to away games and for the lucky few, to the World Cup this September.

A select number of the first team, youth players and coaches are also helping to test and trial the new Levitex® mattress to evidence how it helps their recuperation and recovery after grueling matches. International Faf de Klerk and Tom Curry, Academy star Cameron Redpath, World Cup winner and coach Dorain West MBE, ex-International Mark Cueto MBE and the physio’s have been selected to trial the mattress due to the cross section of age, playing careers and recovery needs.

The importance of sleep in recovery and training

Sleep experts and clinicians have long evidenced the importance of sleep for mental and physical performance and well-being but to date there is very little research on what you actually sleep on – until now. Watch this space for the results of the Sale Shark sleep experience and we will prove choosing the ‘Optimum Surface for Sleep’ is a real game changer!
