How do you take care of the wellbeing of your people?
You probably consider their mental health, work/life balance and physical health. Do you know what you’ve not considered, even though it affects all of these?
Sleep.
What does poor sleep quality cause?
Increased memory loss and forgetfulness
Reduced decision-making ability
Impaired reaction times (akin to being drunk)
Increased risk taking
Reduced motivation and focus
Impaired ability to absorb new knowledge
Adjustments to moral reasoning and inhibitions
Does that sound a little scary? Keep in mind that this is just the non-physical side of things.
Neck pain, back pain and RSI are all caused by poor sleep, too.
Described under the umbrella term of musculoskeletal, they’re UK’s second biggest cause of absences, costing employers over 28 million days a year. The larger the employer, the worse it is, too.

Sleep Posture: The Solution
We spend 8 hours per day sat at work and have been told not to slouch ever since we were little. Do you know what else we do for 8 hours per day?
Sleep.
Yet, this may be your first time hearing about the idea of sleep posture.
That’s because there is currently no attention spent on sleep posture, how it affects your staff, their sleep, and in turn, their performance at work.
Sleep posture is the position of our body at night. A bad posture leads to musculoskeletal issues, and if that term sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve just learnt it’s the second biggest cause of absences in the UK.
